Yes, I skipped yesterday, but I don’t feel bad. I needed some down time after a hectic week and feel more motivated than before. I even managed to make some time to practice playing guitar since I haven’t been able to since I broke my arm a few weeks ago.
In tribute of my favourite childhood cartoon, here is today’s drawing: I drew it completely freehand but with direct observation of the reference image on this blog post about how Tom and Jerry are reflections of our lives.

Shading yesterday was pretty fun, so I decided to spice things up and find some more interesting forms to draw. I found this blog post targeted at architects but it has some really interesting forms.
I decided to draw some of these completely freehand. I drew a front view and then tried drawing it as it was on that image (1-point perspective if I’m not mistaken). This is the result:

Inktober 2019 Day 3: Shading Basic Forms

The last two days I’ve been making very geometric and repetitive drawings. As the month progresses, I would like to move towards more organic and free-hand drawing. An important aspect in drawing that makes the difference between a shape and a form is shading. I decided today I’d like to practice drawing some basic forms and then trying different shading techniques.
First, I had to decide on which basic forms and which shading techniques.

Inktober 2019 Day 2: Mandala

I wasn’t too sure what to draw today, but I enjoyed the Zentangles quite a bit and knew I needed to get more control with the brush pen. Yesterday I mentioned I still want to draw a mandala so I thought why not draw one today. Mandalas are drawings that tend to be very geometric and have a spiritual meaning to them. They typically represent maps of deities or the greater cosmos, showing the interconnectedness of everything.

Inktober 2019 Day 1: Zentangled

Inktober is finally here!
Today while looking for inspiration on basic ink drawings, I came across something called Zentangles. I thought they were be perfect because I tend to work better with patterns with my analytical mind. Ironically, a lot of guides to getting started with drawing suggest doing basic doodles to get familiar with your pen and start the process of building up muscle memory in your hand. They also seem quite similar to mandalas, which I’d like to try later on in the month.

I recently learnt about this cool drawing challenge called Inktober. The gist of it is that you draw something every day for the month of October. There aren’t really any rules except for trying to stick to using ink as your drawing medium.
Initially this didn’t really intrigue me. Funny enough, this is exactly the reason I did become intrigued. I have always said that I can’t draw… So this seems like a perfect opportunity to try to change that.

Make It Rain

I only recently heard about a new fixed and mobile data network in South Africa called Rain. I’m currently facing issues with a fibre line installation and thought I would give Rain a try until the fibre is installed.
I placed my order yesterday, 16 January 2019, at 10:30. It cost R50 for the SIM and 7 days uncapped data, and R1 for delivery by RAM couriers. This morning at 10:48 I got a call from RAM: They were in the mail room!

I’ve never been an avid blogger. This is most likely because my mind goes crazy as soon as I start to write something for someone else. Everything has to be perfect and I have to make sure that everything I discuss has been covered thoroughly.
This blog is somewhat of an experiment with multiple objectives. Firstly, I’d like to improve my writing skills and work on my writing style. Secondly, I’d like to contribute something meaningful and hopefully help some people as I do this.
